As this year winds down, it feels a little hard and weird to tout things that I’m proud of doing in 2023, in light of all of the death and cruelty that feels like the signature of this moment. In the face of my own complicated feelings about that, there’s one thing that I wanted to throw out there for whatever reason, as a big creative birth that i was really proud of- the creation of a new orchestral work. I’ve only done it once before. I don’t see myself as a classical composer and these kinds of moments of stepping outside your comfort zone and making something that you’re proud of, are worth sharing. Listening to it has definitely been nourishing for me, as of late. As always and infinite thank you to maestro @andrederidder and @elizabethalker for this invitation to write a new gargantuan thing. And thank you @bbcconcertorchestra and André for premiering it and making it into a beautiful moment. I’ve posted some of it online now, though with the BBC recording copyright, I can only share 5 minutes of the total 19 minute work. The link is in my bio. Take a break from the pain and take a load off
